Spencer Tracy was born in Milwaukee on April 5, 1900, and a heart attack claimed his life on June 10 1967 in Beverly Hills. In addition to his many other credits, he became the first man to win back to back Oscars for his performances in CAPTAIN’S COURAGEOUS and BOY’S TOWN. He was also well known for playing the leading man to Katherine Hepburn. Tofether, they made a total of nine films.

Spencer Tracy’s grave is located at  Forrest Lawn, in the Glendale Garden of Everlasting Peace.

I have been to this one personally, in the dead of night, and I can confirm that THIS ghost story, at least, is an optical illusion. Rumors about the Bono Bridge have been floating around for years, with different reasons for the supposed hauntings. But the main story involves a dead railroad man (the bridge is an old one lane wooden bridge over railroad tracks, not water) and his wish to take anyone on the bridge into the afterlife with him. Supposedly, if you are there at night standing on the bridge when the train passes under it, if you are there on the WRONG night, the train will rise from the tracks and you will, essentially, become a bug on the windshield. Prayer is supposed to keep you from dying by making the train sink back to the tracks.

This ghost story relies on the “there are no atheists in foxholes” idea, because it is a self fullfilling prophect. The tracks approaching the bridge go over a small rise, then down into acutout area to go under the bridge. Because of the rise and the fast dip, at night it DOES look like the train is rising up to kill you. Then, presumably as you pray, it sinks down and goes through the dip under the bridge, which rattles your teeth loose but leaves you otherwise intact.

Since I am FROM Arkansas, I decided to start my reporting with ghostly occurrences in my home state, and Batesville is great for that. I live less than sixty miles from that town, and grew up hearing the stories. Lyon College has a long history, and plenty of ghosts to choose from.

The college wasn’t always a college. It began as an orphanage, and the orphanage burned down sometime near the turn of the last century.  They say that, late at night, you can hear a rocking chair slowly creaking back and forth in the empty chaple. And, of you are foolish enough to be in te auditorium late at night, the walls will appear to be burning down around you. There are even those who swear that you can feel the heat of the fire when this happens. Also at night, in and near the chapel, children’s voices can be heard, first laughing, and then screaming in terror.

Please remember that most of the haunted places mentioned in this blog are privately owned, and that the owners are no more happy with unwanted people on their property than you would e. Permission is required to visit most of these sites.  And it isn’t just the haunted places, either. Many of the listed gravesites will be in private cemetaries that also require permission. Please bear this in mind and follow necessary steps before attempting to visit any of these places.

GHOST POLICY:

It is our belief that there are actual haunting occurrences. We have witnessed them ourselves. But we believe that of the two types we have found, neither is actually the spirit of dead persons. Type One, which accounts for all poltergheist type activity, floating orbs, and appearances of our dearly departed that actually SPEAK TO US or otherwise acknowledge our presence  can be explained as simple spiritual interference, or, if you will, demonic activity. Please remember that to a spirit nothing is a mystery, they can be anywhere, in any room, at any time, and just because Uncle John appears and tells you what he said that one time when you were alone, doesn’t mean you WERE alone, nor that you and he were the only ones that heard it. Why would spirits do this? Well, if you happen to be a Christian, you are aware that the evil influence wants to draw you away from God, and that any type of ghostly occurrence is likely to pull you away from God if you do believe it. He ain’t called the Prince of Lies for nothin’, honey. If you aren’t a Christian, you’re on your own finding an explanation for Type One.

Type Two onvolves the kind of ghostly occurrence that involves a ghost appearing at the same time in a cycle, whether it be every day, week, month, or year. To buy my explanation for this, you have to believe that time is circular, spinning, really, days spinning over weeks spinning over months spinning over years. Seen this way, it is possible  to understand that, as with a photograph, an imprint can be made upon the wheel of time. Either by a burst of emotional energy, as with a murder, or by constant repition of an act, as in a person who walks down the same flight of stairs every day for forty years , an imprint is made, and as we pass that point on the wheel, we see the imprint as a ghost. This type cannot see nor hear you, and never alter what they are doing. Its always the same.
