Caroline Lake Quiner Ingalls, the mother of esteemed children’s author Laura Ingalls Wilder, was born on Dec. 12, 1839. She is one of the characters so well described by her daughter in the “Little House” books, and that character was played by Karen Grassle in the “Little Houe on the Prairie” television series, which was based on the book series. The show was very popular and ran for many years. Caroline Ingalls, along with her pioneer husband, was a founding citizen of the town of DeSmet in South Dakota. She died on Apr. 20, 1924 and was buried in the DeSmet Cemetary, near most of the rest of her family.
