Jack London, the most noted writer in America in the early 1900s, was well known for heroic stories of man and animal struggling against the environment. The fact that they usually had a dismal and depressing ending didn’t seem to stop people from enjoying his work. London, who had spent years in the Klondike in a fruitless search for gold, instead found his gold in the books he wrJack Londonote with his own experience as a background. Jack London retired… and died… at age forty.

Jack London’s ashes, along with those of his wife, were placed under a boulder in what is now Jack London Historic Park in Glen Ellen California.
