Okay, with all apologies to Stephen King, it had to happen. There are apparently serious reports about a haunted pet cemetery in Gravel Ridge, Arkansas. However, unlike the famous book and movie, in THIS pet cemetery, when you bury your beloved pet, it returns as a ghost. I am sure that I am thankful for that, as should be anyone familiar with the Stephen King version! :) Hey, Gravel Ridge needed SOMETHING to put them on the map!

Cher… time to check out a LIVING legend!

January 22nd, 2008

On this blog, we deal mostly with the departed. But sometimes it’s better to see a celebrity BEFORE they become a ghost, and it is going to get REALLY easy to find Cher when her show opens in Vegas!

Cher, through her many changes, has been around for my entire life. As a child, I watched “The Sonny and Cher Show”. Actually, I kind of freaked when Sonny Bono asked for a divorce on live television… never quite liked him much ever since. Does anyone remember Cher’s movie, “Mask”? I think I wore out the theater seats seeing that one so often. Her music has always moved with the times. Remember “Halfbreed”? I wore out TWO records listening to that song. Thankfully, CDs are much more lasting! If nothing else, Cher has always managed to create controversy wherever she goes. I can’t say that I would like to run right out and hire her clothing designer, but her music and personality have made me laugh and cry over the years.

Sometime in May of this year, when Celine Dion’s show finishes it’s run, Caesar’s Palace will be the stage for Cher’s newest show. It will be interesting to see what she has decided to do now! You can bet fans will be lining up around the block to buy Cher tickets at Ceasar’s Palace. Hmmm. Might be a better idea to buy them online. In any case, I’ll see you there!

OLD REDFIELD ROAD in Grant County, Arkansas

January 22nd, 2008

Apparently, whatever or whomever is behind the haunted activity on this road isn’t too particular about what kind of haunting they do. In most places, activity is limited to a single recurring event. But on this road, near the old cemetery, people should be prepared for anything. Otherwise normally acting car hoods have been known to fly open for no apparent reason as the cemetery is passed, orbs have been seen in and out of the cemetery, and flashlight or radio batteries have been reported to go instantly dead as people carry them into the cemetery. Ghosts of many descriptions have been reported as well. There appears to be no specific time of year or month for these happening… apparently anytime is good. Might be worth checking out!

Barbaro 2003-2007

January 18th, 2008

Barbaro

Barbaro. At this point in history, even most people who don’t follow horse racing know the name because of his tragic end. His win at the Kentucky derby led many to speculate that he might very well be the next Triple Crown winner. No horse has taken the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978, and only 11 horses have ever accomplished the feat. His tragic accident during his run at the Preakness Stakes and his subsequent operations had the world holding it’s breath, and when he was eventually euthenized, it opened widespread speculation about the way thouroughbred horses are bred, for speed but possibly too delicate to withstand the pressures of the racing arena.

Barbaro was creamated, and his ashes given to his owner. There is no known burial spot.

Abigail Adams holds a very unique and interesting place in American history. As both the wife and mother of US presidents, she was a highly influential person. Able to both converse and use written correspondence with a clarity that was rare in women of the day, she was one of the earliest abolitionists, convincing many of the importance of women’s rights.

Abigail Adams is interred at the First Unitarian Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, as are her husband and son, both US presidents.
